Devlog #31 - First Impressions
Good Evening Talented Gamers!
We hope you're enjoying the 0.8 update, we've seen yet another increase in players which is very exciting. After a hard earned week off we're getting back into the swing of things and want to keep you all up to date!
Goals
We've paid close attention to your feedback and we want to spend a healthy portion of this update improving the core loop of the game. The following are just some of the issues we want to address:
Game Pace
The game feels a little bit sluggish in the early game right now, particularly on the lower mastery levels. While we don't want to make it too overwhelming for completely fresh players, we don't want to leave anyone with nothing to do.
Talent Tree Connectivity
There are far too many dead ends on the talent tree right now. Coupled with the long range vision on Epic talents it can lead to a frustrating experience where you try to track them down and are treated to a useless talent with no connection. Nope!
Difficulty Consistency
We want every run to feel different. Some runs will be difficult, and some runs will feel capital B - Busted, that's all part of the run of roguelikes. Having said that, our difficulty spread can leave some runs feeling impossible and some feeling boring and trivial. We're looking at how we can change enemy bonuses and the enemies themselves to improve this.
Class Balance
Now we're fairly happy with the identity of each class, we can start looking at making them all a little more balanced. They'll never be truly equal in power, but we want to avoid completely runaway outliers (looking at you Archer).
Title Screen
We also want to give you a sneak peek of what we're planning for our new Title Screen! Here's a mockup done by our Truly Talented Artist Ryue
We might even have more coming on the deep and profound Talented Lore in the coming weeks...
That's all we have time for this Devlog, but keep an eye out for more upcoming changes including new Talent Packages for your favourite class. Remember you can tell us what you think, and get early sneak peeks of what we're up to on our Discord, so head right over.
Stay Talented!
